Poppy industry reforms great news for growers

Tasmania’s peak farming organisation has welcomed Government moves to strengthen the State’s poppy industry.

TFGA President Wayne Johnston said that the reforms surrounding industry regulation and the Poppy Advisory and Control Board (PACB) were great news for growers.

“These decisions will ultimately remove excessive red tape for farmers and ensure that the State’s poppy industry remains responsive to change and ahead of the game on the world stage,’’ Mr Johnston said.

“The option of five year licences will also allow responsible growers to plan for multiple seasons, rather than being curtailed to just one, creating greater certainty and stimulating further investment in the sector.”
