PIAP Act amendments will help build industry confidence

Tasmania’s peak farming body has applauded the news that the State Government will introduce amendments to the Primary Industries Activity Protection (PIAP) Act to Parliament in the first half of this year.

TFGA CEO Peter Skillern said that the proposed changes to the Act would give the State’s farmers renewed confidence to do what they do best – farm.

“These moves will go to some way to assuring the agricultural community in Tasmania that it can continue to move forward with its plans for growth without the threat of action from individuals and groups that are unfamiliar with the daily workings of farm life,” Mr Skillern said.

“We will continue to work with State Government to ensure that, where possible, there are reduced roadblocks to the ability to farm in Tasmania.”
