Labor agricultural package announcement

27 February 2018

The Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association (TFGA) today welcomed the release of the Labor Party’s plan for agriculture in the State.

“It is clear Labor has listened to the concerns and aspirations of the sector by committing to reducing costs for farmers, continuing the significant investment in irrigation, and investing in a skilled workforce,” TFGA CEO Peter Skillern said.

“The further commitment to establish a Primary Industries and Forestry Industry Advisory Council is something that the TFGA also supports as it will allow farmers and foresters to come together with government to achieve common goals.”

This is further recognition of the importance of agriculture to the Tasmanian economy, which currently contributes over $1.5 billion a year.
