Fruit fly measures necessary: TFGA

02 February 2018

The announcement today that there will be stricter protocols in place for the Fruit Fly exclusion zone is an appropriate move to protect our very valuable fruit and vegetable industries.

The additional announcement of a support package for growers and ancillary industries is to be highly commended.

“We are pleased to see that there has been bipartisan support for these announcements, this shows once again the importance of agriculture to Tasmania is well recognised” CEO Peter Skillern said.

The Fruit Fly incursion represents a serious risk to parts of the agricultural sector and no stone should be left unturned in dealing with this issue.

The TFGA will continue to monitor the situation and advise members accordingly.
