Drought Relief

02 October 2019

The announcement today by the Hon Guy Barnett Minister for Primary Industries of a comprehensive package for drought-affected areas of Tasmania is warmly welcomed by the TFGA. The Minister announced a package of $400,000 in a specifically targeted drought relief program.
TFGA CEO Peter Skillern said 'This was great news for those farmers struggling with dry conditions on the East Coast and the south of the state through to the Midlands.
Rainfall in this areas has been sparse with relatively no sub-soil moisture which has resulted in the likelihood of a poor season''
''Today's announcement of the 2017-18 Agri-food Scorecard which shows the gross value of Agricultural production rising 10.6% is an indication of the potential upside to Agriculture in this state. This type of growth potential reinforces the value of the decision made today to provide drought relief to those struggling areas of the state'' he said
The TFGA will work closely with the Government to implement drought relief program.
