TFGA staff are as passionate about agriculture as you are. Our staff are engaged, friendly and ready to grow and learn with the Tasmanian farming community.
They’re all specialists in their fields, what they don’t know about the Tasmanian agricultural sector, they will find out
Chief Executive Officer - Peter Skillern
Peter is a man of many talents. He was the TFGA’s policy and advocacy manager for two years before taking on the mantle of CEO, and was instrumental in brokering many wins for Tasmanian farmers during that time.
Peter has had an extensive career in banking and senior managerial roles and specialises in finance and corporate governance. He has managed a group of family companies involved in construction, property development and agriculture. In a wide-ranging career he has also held executive posts with both Environment Tasmania and the Liberal Party.
When he’s not dressed in a suit, attending countless meetings and hassling three tiers of government, Peter also runs a prime lamb property at Campania. He is just as comfortable on his tractor in work boots and hi-vis gear, as he is wandering the halls of parliament; and has experienced first-hand many of the trials and tribulations that face Tasmanian farmers.
Policy & Rural Affairs Manager- Nick Steel
As the saying goes ‘you can take the boy out of the country but you can’t take the country out of the boy’. This is very true for Nick who grew up on a farm, worked on various farms, attended agricultural college and now is working for a farm advocacy organisation helping farmers.
Nick is the Policy and Advocacy Manager with the TFGA, where he manages the policy and advocacy team in the areas of commodities, environment and cross-commodity issues. A position that is responsible for providing high level policy advice, analysis and communications directly to the CEO.
Nick recently graduated from the Tasmanian Leaders Program (2015) and holds a Graduate Certificate in Plant Biosecurity, Diploma of Business (Banking and Finance) and an Advanced Diploma of Farm Management. His experience includes roles across advertising, banking, finance, freight logistics and agriculture.
