The TFGA is the peak body representing the agricultural sector in Tasmania, or put simply the TFGA is the largest advocacy and lobby organisation assisting farmers across Tasmania.
The Tasmanian agricultural sector is becoming increasingly regulated as governments aim to alleviate community concerns relating to food safety, the environment, animal welfare and workplace safety issues.
Consequently, developing policy and reviewing legislation that reflects the needs of the agricultrual sector is a core role that the TFGA undertakes on behalf of its members. \
To this end the TFGA policy unit is dedicated to:
- developing and promoting effective policy solutions;
- ensuring that legislation is both practical and balanced; and
- championing issues that affect our members
Lowland Native Grasslands
As you are aware, in June 2009, the Lowland Native Grasslands of Tasmania was listed as a critically endangered ecological community under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).
To accompany the official listing and conservation advices that were published in June 2009, the Australian Government has prepared an information booklet and a separate Question and Answer pamphlet specifically targeted at farmers.
These documents can be downloaded here or contact the TFGA office if you prefer a hardcopy.
