TFGA's Role in NRM
The TFGA has always sought to represent members
in Government processes relating to NRM and as the workload
in this regard has increased we have added more resources
so that we can do this more effectively. Since 1999 we have
had a full time Environmental Officer on our staff. We are
looking at how we can add further to our capabilities in future.
We have also sought to form alliances
with other organisations, where these will allow us to increase
our level of service to members. Key examples here are the
Protected Areas on Private Land (PAPL) program - undertaken
in conjunction with the Department of Primary Industries,
Water and Environment and the Tasmanian Land Conservancy;
and the Landcare program - where we are working in partnership
with the Australian Government. Both of these programs are
described in detail elsewhere on this website.
The TFGA's objective in all this is to influence Government
administration of NRM to ensure that Government understands
and respects the needs of farmers, minimise regulation, ensure
that such regulation as is necessary is based on sound science,
and maximise a cooperative approach between Government and
farmers to the resolution of problems. We are also keen to
provide information and assistance on natural resource management
to members where they are looking for such information and
assistance.
