The Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association today continued its sponsorship of the Rural Alive and Well program when it handed over another Mitsubishi Outlander to replace the first vehicle it gave 18 months ago.
“There is no more important community service than the work Vyv Alomes and his colleagues perform for those living under stress on the land,” TFGA chief executive Chris Oldfield said today when handing to Mr Alomes, the organisation’s Executive Officer, the keys to the vehicle.
Rural Alive and Well offers a suicide prevention and community wellbeing outreach service to farmers and rural communities facing hardship. It is a subject close to the heart of the TFGA, which is a major partner in the program.
Rural Alive and Well staff also use cars generously provided by the Roberts Limited and Gunns Limited. The cars are used to make farm visits, house calls and to conduct suicide awareness training programs. The Rural Alive and Well brief also takes in men's physical health, including general confidence and resilience building in small, rural communities.
Rural Alive and Well was a founding member of Drought Network Tasmania, a network of 20 agencies providing services to individuals and communities in drought-affected parts of Tasmania, and coordinated through the TFGA. With the end of the drought, the network has taken on a wider role as the Tasmanian Rural Services Network
