Dairy Assistance Package
On 6 October the Primary Industries and Water Minister David Llewellyn, announced new measures to assist Tasmania’s dairy farmers deal with the challenges caused by low milk prices and compounded by continued wet weather.
The Dairy Assistance Package comprises household support, counselling, community resilience, networking, financial support and advice, plus animal welfare. The total cost of the assistance is expected to be $465,000.
Delivery of the assistance is through both Government and community groups. The package will also fund a TFGA position to co-ordinate services, liaise with providers and facilitate uptake.

Farming Family Relief Program – application form
Grants are now available of up to $2,000 per dairy farm family to assist with household bills and other family household expenses. These grants are being administered by Country Women’s Association (CWA). For more information or assistance call (03) 6231 3706 or visit www.cwaintas.org.au
Social and Community Events program – application form
TFGA has received an allocation of $20,000 from the Tasmanian Government to provide support to social events and activities in communities affected by the difficulties in the dairy industry. Grants of up to $3,000 are available to community groups to support social and community events in dairy areas.

Dairy Support Grants – application form
TFGA has received an allocation of $200,000 from the Tasmanian Government to provide support to dairy farmers undergoing difficulties in the present circumstances. Grants of up to $5,000 per dairy business are available to assist with the costs of pasture improvement or access to fodder, agistment or transport of fodder / livestock.

Taking Stock Program – application form
Dairy farmers have the opportunity to have an independent financial, physical or people resources assessment of their business. This consultation will come at no cost to the farmers participating. Additional places are available for dairy farmers to undertake this program.

Veterinary Services Subsidy – application form
The State Government has established a subsidy program to help dairy farmers improve or maintain the welfare of their cattle during the current downturn. Under the program, Tasmanian dairy farmers can claim 50% of the cost of a professional veterinary visit to their property.
